Elm Weekly - Issue #166
This issue is all about creating generative art with Elm.
Articles and Discussion
Write a puzzle generator in Elm
Juri Chomé described using Elm to randomly generate jigsaw puzzles (and then make physical pieces with a laser cutter). Definitely qualifies as an art project for me!
Tools and Projects
shamansir/tron-gui — package.elm-lang.org
This package by Ulric Wilfred allows you to add a UI for your generative art. It's used in the JetBrains Tiler project – you can read more about it here.
R4chel created an exploration of generative art. You can have a look at the source.
Erkal Selman has created a number of interesting 3D demos using ianmackenzie/elm-3d-scene:
recursive-rotation — erkal.github.io
You can find the source here.
wave-in-wave — erkal.github.io
You can find the source here.
dancing-cubes — erkal.github.io
You can find the source here.
You can find more of Erkal's demos in the GitHub repo.
lucamug/elm-box-drawing 1.0.1 — package.elm-lang.org
Let's not forget ASCII art. You can create animated ASCII art like this using Luca Mugnaini's package for working with line-drawing characters.
Arkham/tixy.elm: A clone of tixy.land in Elm — github.com
Lastly, Ju Liu made a clone of tixy.land in Elm, which is sort of a micro-playground for your own creative coding. Source code.
Talks and Podcasts
Noah Z Gordon gave a talk about using Elm for interactive generative art:
In this 2018 talk, Xavier discussed how to use Elm to create generative art and print it using a pen plotter:
